Inflammatory Bowel Disease – Oct 2017

Dear Friends,                                    October 2017

Ulcerative colitis is an inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) that causes long-lasting inflammation and ulcer symptoms, or sores in the digestive tract. Ulcerative colitis affects the innermost lining of the large intestine and rectum.

This inflammatory disease can be debilitating, and sometimes it can even lead to life-threatening complications. Ulcerative colitis (UC) may lead to a narrowed area of the intestines, making it harder to pass stool. It may also lead to swelling in the colon, intense diarrhea, joint pain, and scarring of the bile ducts and pancreas inflammation.

UC most often begins gradually and can become worse over time. The symptoms of this inflammatory disease can be mild to severe, most people have periods of remission, (times in which the symptoms disappear) that can last for weeks or years. While it is said there is no known cure for ulcerative colitis, there are natural treatments that can greatly reduce signs and symptoms of the disease and result in long-term remission. Those with Celiac Disease suffer similar symptoms but it is the presence of gluten in the intestinal tract that triggers the immune response. It is a very good possiblity that the steep increase in those who have adverse reactions to gluten may well be reacting to the glyphosate that is used in hte harvest of wheat.

New research continues to come out with hope for a more permanent treatment for ulcerative colitis and other inflammatory bowel diseases. A 2017 study by University of NC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, found that the protein NLRP12 regulates inflammation in the body. Analysis found low levels of NLRP12 in twins with ulcerative colitis, but not in twins without the disease. When NLRP12 was low, there were lower levels of friendly bacteria as well as high levels of harmful bacteria and inflammation. Researchers believe they could add back more of the friendly bacteria in people with inflammatory bowel diseases with reduced NLRP12 expression to reduce inflammation and restore healthy bacteria, ending the cycle and offering treatment to those with ulcerative colitis. Unfortunately, today’s drugs used for inflammatory bowel disease have unfortunate side effects that range from wrinkling of skin, pancreatitis, to stopping of the heart. I guess they didn’t want to use the term, “sudden death”.

While I find this very interesting, I am not a scientist; I am an herbalist. What this boils down to is that I use herbs and remedies that work. I may not always know why or how they work but the wisdom of Herbalism is ageless and when I see the change in my client’s health turn for the better that is enough for me. I don’t want to dissect an herb to study the individual components to see what makes it tick. Instead I’ve learned to use the whole herb and trust its safety and efficiency in its entirety. That is where the magic resides. Whole herbs also have the added benefit of being extremely safe for long-term use.

The first thing I do for any immunodeficiency or autoimmune disorder is to recommend my Endocrine Strengthener tincture. It is what I used to reverse my autoimmune disorder. (alopecia totalis). It was the only thing after 11 years that grew back my hair, eyebrows and eyelashes. The purpose of this tincture is to reset the immune system, to discontinue or slow down its attack on healthy tissue. For those with Celiac Disease (CD), I make a Gluten Free Endocrine Strengthener

Some Diet Suggestions

Most sufferers of inflammatory bowel disease can benefit from going gluten free even if they have not been diagnosed with Celiac Disease (CD). If you are able to consume gluten without any problems it is important to eat healthy carbohydrates with fiber. There are two kinds of fiber: Soluble Fiber keeps your arteries clear by balancing your cholesterol and Insoluble Fiber Keeps your intestinal tract healthy. If you are sensitive to fiber you can be sure that the insoluble fiber is the culprit. If so, you should try to avoid it for the first month until the Endocrine Strengthener starts to calm the intestines down. Foods that are high in soluble fiber are figs (not Fig Newton’s), Organic corn grits, carob flour, and garbanzo beans. A good source of soluble fiber without any insoluble fiber is over-the-counter Benefiber. Eat all the fruits and vegetables that agree with you so that you receive lots of Phytonutrients (Plant nutrients).

Eating healthy oils such as olive oil, grape seed oil, walnut oil, flaxseed oil, safflower and Omega 3 fatty acids help keep a healthy balance between HDLs and LDLs (good and bad cholesterol respectively). Avocado, sunflower, peanut and grape seed oils are good for high heat cooking such as stir-frying.

Avoid vegetable oil, soy, canola, corn and cottonseed oil as they are mostly all Genetically Modified and are very irritating to the gut and intestinal tract. This should be no surprise as these plants are genetically modified to burst the stomachs of the bugs who eat it. Also avoid trans-fats; this type of fat is found nowhere in nature, therefore it’s very difficult if not impossible for your body to assimilate.

Stop eating all sugar and white flour as they cause a great deal of inflammation in your body. The only sugar replacements I recommend are Stevia and Monk Fruit. Equal and Nutra Sweet are neurotoxins and Splenda is made from the excrement of Genetically Modified bacteria. Yuck!

You may not be able to tolerate dairy products but you probably can eat fermented ones like Kefir. Kefir is loaded with healthy bacteria for the gut. Eat as many fermented foods as you can because replacing healthy intestinal bacteria is going to be very important. Here are some to consider: sauerkraut (the kind in the bag has live bacteria), Kambucha, miso soup, pickles, sour cream, Bragg’s Vinegar and Worcestershire Sauce to name a few.

As for blood sugar, carbohydrate restricted diets are perfect for regulating it. Many people believe they are eating a healthy diet because they don’t eat sugar, but what they may not realize is that eating refined flour, white rice and potatoes can cause your blood sugar to spike almost as quickly as plain sugar. Whole grains, on the other hand in which the bran [outer layer of grain which is high in fiber] and the germ [the healthy oily heart of the grain that is packed with protein and fiber] are present, cause blood sugar to rise at a slower rate. This is referred to as the glycemic index. Why is this important? When the blood sugar rises quickly it cause the pancreas to pump out insulin to clean up the excess sugar in the blood. As the blood sugar drops, hunger returns. This is typical of someone who is a “carb-a-holic”. It also sets you up to become insulin resistant which can, over time, lead to diabetes.  There are herbs that can help you to properly assimilate sugar and cholesterol such as Black Walnut and Dandelion but herbal blends work the best. If this applies to you, I recommend a formula that I developed specifically for these conditions called “Blood Purifier. This will help balance your blood sugar and fats.

Ultimately you will learn what you can and cannot eat, but these are some important guidelines to restore your health.

This is a first step to controlling Crohn’s Disease, Ulcerative Colitis or Celiac Disease. When you feel your condition is under control I highly suggest that you take the next step and balance your gut flora by following my Candida Recommendations.

Lori’s Recommendations

  • Add “Endocrine Strengthener and Turmeric” from “The Healing Path” to your daily supplements to help balance the immune system and  reduce inflammation.
  •  Remove white flour and all sugar from your diet as well as all refined carbs. You may use the herb “stevia” to sweeten your food.
  •  Add 5000IU of Vitamin D and 100mg of Co Q-10 to your daily supplements.
  •  Limit your intake of carbohydrates to whole grains. When you are stabilized we can discuss the Candida Cleanse
  •  If you are having flare ups start slow by using soluble fiber such as fruits, beans oatmeal, figs Garbanzo beans, grits, carob flour, oatmeal and vegetables. Brussels’ sprouts are the highest vegetable in soluble       fiber.
  •  Avoid highly saturated fats and eliminate trans-fats Coconut oil is ok. Good oils: olive oil, grape seed, walnut oil, flaxseed oil, safflower and Omega 3 fatty acids
  •  Drink ½ cup of kefir daily or 3 to 4 times a week. The live bacteria will help your digest and it is far better than yogurt.
  •  Eat salmon at least once a week. Great source of Omega-3 fatty acids and has been found to relieve symptoms.*[ Take an Omega-3 supplement. (Preferably from Norwegian cod liver oil or organic flaxseed)
  •  if raw fruits and vegetables lead to discomfort it may help to steam, stew or bake them. This makes them easier to digest.
  • Increase your physical activity.
  • Note: If you are having long bouts of flair ups you can add the herb, “Turmeric” to your supplements. It is a wonderful anti-inflammatory. You can buy it in capsule form in almost any drug store or in tincture form on my website.  Tincture of Turmeric

Love and Light,

Lori

  1. When I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease, I was in rough shape. I was so weak and the medications I was on seemed to make me feel worse. I tried many drugs only to get a ton of side effects and no relief; the side effects were debilitating. I had psoriasis so bad and my hair was falling out in clumps and I had itchy pustules on my feet and hands itched n hurt so bad. A friend told me about Lori and The Healing Path. I figured I’d give it a look since nothing else was helping. She suggested something called Endocrine Strengthener. I took that in place of the drugs and low and behold, my Crohn’s symptoms receded, my hair grew back, my skin returned to normal and I had energy again. GOOD STUFF!

  2. I am actually grateful to the owner of this website who has shared this wonderful article about this subject that I am all too familiar with.

  3. I have taken the Endocrine Strengthener before
I have Crohn’s disease and Coeliac disease I had Alopecia Twice and Lori helped me grow my hair back I was so grateful to her.
I then stopped using this for over a year and a half and my hair is coming out again.
I feel I should of kept taking these wonderful herbs.
I have ordered some more Endocrine Strengthener.
